As the prevalence of B2B e-commerce is slowly becoming more prominent, let’s take a look at some of the trends that will be relevant at least till 2020:

B2B E-comm-01

Personalised Selling

Some research as shown that B2B researchers and buyers are exhibiting more traits like those in the B2C sector. There seems to be a shift of demographics, as the active B2B researchers on the net become younger, where the proportion of people aged 18-34, also known as millennials, increases rapidly. They are the ones who grew up with Internet, and they expect instant gratification, control, and customized offers, from social media and online shops. Naturally, this group of B2B buyers will place similar expectations on the sellers and hence, it is important to think about how a typical consumer behaves when developing an E-commerce website or customer experience.

In the next couple of years, more than half of the B2B companies claimed that they may cease the printing of hardcopy product catalogs. As such, more and more product catalogs are digitalized and placed on e-commerce or corporate websites.

Mobile Shopping

Both you and I, and everyone else, owns a smartphone. Today, most of the online shopping are no longer done through computers, but instead, through our mobile phones due to our convenience. As such, it is important that the e-commerce site is integrated with the mobile version to obtain a seamless and consistent user interface.

Videos are getting more attention and results daily. B2B companies are starting to explore the world of video marketing as it serves a more interactive tool to deliver a message. As such, many platforms are starting to integrate videos into their product page, and this helps to build trust, engagement, and loyalty from customers.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI is starting to replace human labour as computers are getting increasingly intelligent. Through data, search engines, and machine learning, product search and conversations are further simplified and instantaneous, providing increased convenience and instant replies to customers.

Augmented Reality (AR)

AR is becoming more and more prominent in delivering an engaging and immersive customer experience. More than just for gaming experiences, AR has also penetrated into the business world by helping brands converse with their customers and compete with other businesses. This is for sure the next field of exploration for B2B e-commerce.
